An experience to rememberSeptember 20, 2017
Melanie, Mae and Danielle
Three Chichester College students worked round the clock to help performers bring the past to life at this year’s Goodwood Revival.
Mae Brogan, Danielle Miller and Melanie Railton, who are studying level 3 production arts hair and makeup diplomas at the college, worked with renowned hair and makeup artist Lisa George at the weekend-long event, which is held at the Goodwood Estate each year.
They spent three intensive days, from 5.45am to 6pm, creating vintage looks from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s for performers at the show – from dramatic waves and soft curls to bold makeup including red lips and ‘cat-eye’ flicked eyeliner.
They were also on hand to ensure the models’ and artists’ looks remained flawless throughout the day – no mean feat given the wet and windy weather conditions!
Mae said: “It was really hard work, with very long days but I’m really glad I did it. We learnt a lot!
“It was challenging, and not as structured as I thought it would be – one minute we would be manic, then it would go quiet for a little while before it all started again.
“It definitely taught us a lot about technique and has given me more confidence.”
Melanie agreed: “It was a good experience for us and a lot different to anything I had done before.
“It was exciting and with the weather it felt like we were constantly needing to re-do curling and touching up make up.
“But it was really exciting and it has helped to confirm that this is the industry I want to work in.”
Julie Davis, deputy head of learning at Chichester College, said: “The girls all did a fantastic job at Goodwood.
“They held their own, working alongside more experienced hair and makeup artists – they should be really proud of what they achieved.
“Opportunities like this don’t come along every day, and it is up to the students to make the most of it, which they did, having impressed Lisa and her team at the Regency Ball earlier in the summer.
“I can already see the difference in each of them – they have come back full of confidence and buzzing for the year ahead.”
