Bede’s Charity WalkJuly 7, 2016
Bede’s Prep School charity walk on the final Wednesday of the year has rapidly become one of the highlights of the school calendar. This year the children had chosen to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association, following the death of the father of one of the much-loved members of staff from this currently incurable disease.
Prior to the walk a member of the charity visited the school to talk to the children about this disease and to highlight the areas of support and research where the money raised would be used. The children were keen to do everything they could and all the pupils in Years 3-8 braved wind and threatening rain to walk across the Seven Sisters from Cuckmere Haven back to School.
As in previous years, the children purchased coloured t-shirts to wear depending on their year group and a sea of colour could be seen in spite of the grey as they made their way back across the Downs. A much appreciated ice-cream stop at Birling Gap and lunch at Belle Tout made the journey easier, but the children remained cheerful and resolute throughout.
The pupils returned to school still on the whole full of energy, where the Pre-Prep and Nursery had also been raising funds during their Sports Day.
The efforts of both groups of children raised over £2,000. A fantastic achievement.
