September 14, 2016

Pupils from Bede’s school U15 and 1st IX and 2nd XI teams enjoyed a pre-season trip to Amsterdam, Holland to hone their football skills ahead of the start of term.

The boys enjoyed visits to the Amsterdam Arena, the home of the mighty Ajax, and a chance to see Dutch teams AZ Alkmaar and NEC play.

Additionally, the Bede’s squads were extremely lucky to enjoy two training sessions at the Ajax training ground on the trip with Ajax coaches.   The pupils were challenged by the coaches with dribbling and footwork drills before moving into small side games to develop their skills further.   The Ajax coaches were very impressed by hard work and determination shown by the Bede’s pupils saying that they were ‘one of the best school sides we have ever trained’.

Alongside the training, the squads enjoyed fixtures against local sides SV Ouderkerk and FC Blokkers. In the fixture against Blokkers, the Ist XI won 4-0 with goals from Matt Pickering, OIliver Welbourne, Ryan Wells and Issac Drogba, with U15’s cruising to a 11-0 victory including goals from Rex Lane, Joshua Ogunkoya, Temba Wardle and Nasje Smith.

The fixtures at Ouderkerk saw the U15’s win again 8-3 with Rex Lane and Joshua Ogunkoya scoring again, the 2ndXI also were victorious with a 3-1 victory with goals from Louis Mason, Charlie Dumas and Oliver Duncan.

The 1stXI kicked off against a strong Ouderkerk side but a hat-trick in the first half from Issac Drogba meant that the team went into the second half in a strong position, finishing 5-0 after additional goals from Louis Mason and Victor Trauer.

Head of Football at Bede’s David Caryer said ‘the tour was invaluable exercise for the teams and the coaches, although the greatest success of the tour was the development of strong sense of camaraderie for the season ahead’.
