Bede’s Juniors Achieve Clean Sweep in County Cricket Cups

July 28, 2016

Bede’s has had a remarkable school cricket season, with its Junior Teams winning County Trophies at all ages, from U12 to U15 level.

Bede’s Senior School’s U14s and Bede’s Prep School’s U12s won their respective County Cup titles with convincing victories on the same day. The U14s beat Seaford College by 8 wickets, bowling superbly and restricting Seaford to 82 before reaching that total in just 10 overs. The U12s meanwhile put on 137 for the first wicket, reaching 148 during their 20 overs while opponents Warden Park batted 109 in response.

Bede’s Prep School’s 1st XI then played Rydon in their County Cup final, again batting first. Openers Archie Lenham and Aiden Plumley put on 164 in 20 overs with Rydon bowled out for 53 in reply.

Last but not least, the U15 Blackshaw Cup saw Bede’s play some brilliant cricket in both the semis, against Brighton College, and the final, against Ardingly College.

During the Brighton College game, Bede’s openers Alastair Orr and Tom Gordon scored a century and put on an amazing 211 in 20 overs, winning the game by over a hundred runs. The final against Ardingly then saw the Bede’s U15 team make 176-4 before they bowled their opponents out for 70.

”It has been a brilliant season for Bede’s, with the school winning four trophies at U12, 13, 14 and 15 levels,” said Neil Lenham, Bede’s Cricket Development Coach and ex-Sussex CCC player.

“This unique achievement has come about through the hard work of Bede’s pupils and the coaching they have received from the likes of our Director of Cricket, ex-England international Alan Wells, and our Bowling Consultant and fellow ex-England player James Kirtley.”
