The Boarding Schools Association has announced that Bede’s School, in Upper Dicker, East Sussex is the winner of their 2018 “Working with Vulnerable Children” Award. Bede’s Headmaster, Peter Goodyer received the award on behalf of the School at the Association’s awards ceremony held in Brighton.
Since 2012, Bede’s has been in partnership with East Sussex Local Authority and also supported by the SpringBoard Bursary Foundation, in building a boarding and outreach programme with the aim to raise the educational aspirations and expectations of children in care. Bede’s has worked closely with the East Sussex Virtual School to enable a number of young people to benefit from this scheme, and leavers have gone on to take up places at top universities or apprenticeships.
Commenting on the award, Mr Goodyer said, “I am delighted to receive this award which recognises the excellent care we have given to children who have faced great challenges in their young lives. Working alongside Springboard and East Sussex County Council, we have built a successful model which helps transforms lives and, more broadly, this award also underlines the outstanding pastoral care and breadth in our curriculum, which have been fundamental to Bede’s success over the years.”
