Bede’s Year 7 Spanish Language Experience in BrightonJune 23, 2016
Students of Spanish in Year 7 at Bede’s joined with the Salesianos School from Santander in Spain when they met in Brighton, in order to lay the foundations for a closer collaboration during Bede’s Cantabria Trip in May.
An initial speaking exercise at the Chapel Royal acted as an icebreaker, from the students moved as one group to the Town Hall to be introduced to the Lady Mayoress, Lynda Hide. Wearing her full robes and chains, she gave the children an introduction to the protocols of Council Meetings, and then asked for questions.
Moving on to the Royal Pavilion, mixed teams of English and Spanish children toured the rooms and made observations to use in a writing exercise later at the Museum of Art just across the Pavilion Gardens. The teams invested enormous effort in sharing their ideas and language knowledge to produce a quality review of the Pavilion visit.
The children returned to the Chapel Royal where teams gave their presentations, which were judged by the teachers for their content, quality and range of vocabulary and accuracy.
Bede’s students are now looking forward to meeting up with teachers and students of the Salesianos School when they visit Cantabria in May.
