On Wednesday 2 May, pupils, parents, staff and members of the wider school community gathered at Bede’s Senior School in Upper Dicker for its Young Musician of the Year event. The evening presented astounding musical performances from five pupils across the year groups, comprising pianist Archie Taylor, classical guitarist Matthew Grant, flautist Daisy Noton, percussionist Oliver Prosper and soprano vocalist Imogen Lock.
The competition was adjudicated by London-based freelance baritone, musical director and pianist, Benedict Kearns, and Daisy Noton was announced the overall winner. Daisy has enjoyed an exciting couple of months musically, having been accepted into the National Youth Orchestra for Great Britain as a flautist in March.
Robert Scamardella, Director of Music at Bede’s, says: “The standard of performance was incredibly high throughout the evening, and all of the pupils involved did themselves proud. We are very grateful to Benedict Kearns for giving his time to adjudicate the competition and give valuable feedback on each of the performances. Thank you to all who attended to support our young musicians and the Bede’s Music Department.”
Bede’s next music recital will be “Music for a Summer’s Evening” on Wednesday 23 May at Bede’s Senior School from 7.15pm. Tickets are free but space is limited, so please email email@example.com in advance to reserve your seats.
