Farlington Music Department’s joint concertDecember 16, 2016
Recently, the Farlington Music Department held a joint concert with Wonersh and Shamley Green Primary School (WSG).
“Sing, Strum and Drum” celebrated the musical progress of Farlington girls alongside children who have taken part in Farlington’s inaugural Music Outreach project for this academic year.
The concert featured performances from Farlington’s Guitar Group, Year 7 Music Scholars and Prep 3 girls, who played ukuleles and sang alongside Year 4 children from WSG School. Year 2 and 3 pupils from WSG performed their own composition on African Djembe drums, following Mr Dallimore’s musical instruction at their lunchtime drumming clubs, which developed their performance skills through rhythm playing, composition and improvisation.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable concert with children from both schools benefiting from performing in a large group to an audience of delighted parents. The concert is the culmination of this term’s collaboration between the two schools, a new relationship which all staff involved are keen to foster.
The WSG Year 4 teacher has been delighted with their achievements: “The children have loved their ukulele sessions with Mr Dallimore. They have been inspired to practise at home and make up their own songs. We are so pleased that the children have been able to learn a new skill and make so much progress.”
This joint concert marks the beginning of Farlington’s Music Outreach programme for this academic year which will also feature a singing project for Year 4 children with two local schools in the Spring Term, events for Gifted and Talented musicians, and an Early Years project in the Summer Term.
