Farlington Prep School’s Christingle service

December 2, 2016

Making a list – stirring the pudding – wrapping presents – stuffing the turkey…. there are so many jobs to get done before Christmas and we were reminded of some of these at our beautiful Christingle Service yesterday, held in St Mary’s, Horsham.

As ever, the Prep girls rose to the occasion, singing heartily and playing their instruments with poise. Readers were expressive and crystal clear.

Reverend Beresford reminded us that there is far more to Christmas than the mere trappings.

Using a large, heart-shaped Advent calendar to illustrate his point, girls opened up, ‘windows into the heart’ to see what gifts we should be sharing with others this Christmas season: these included our emotions and responding to our community – not just thinking about what will be waiting for us under the tree.

The Christmas message, whether we are believers or not, is one of great hope and a reminder of the importance of the less tangible parts of our lives.

What a superb end to the occasion to hear pupils greeting the congregation in 17 different languages: all of them languages that are spoken in Farlington homes. What a rich and diverse school we have here, of which we are incredibly proud.

Grateful thanks to the whole team for such a special evening – especially to our music teacher Mr Dallimore who never fails to put together a memorable and polished performance.
