Firewalk for charity at Chichester College

June 15, 2016

Could you walk on hot coals for charity?

If so, Chichester College needs you! The college is looking for people to sign-up to be a ‘firewalker’ to help raise money to build a school in Kenya.

As part of the college’s ‘Big Build’ fundraising efforts, a charity firewalking event has been arranged on Thursday 23 June, from 7pm, at The Pavilion bar – located on the campus at Westgate Fields, Chichester.

Since January, students and staff have been working with African Adventures foundation to raise almost £35,000 towards building a new school in Nakuru, Kenya.

It’s the biggest building project that the foundation has taken on and will cost around £70,000.

The school will have 10 classrooms, an office, toilet block and school hall and it’s hoped it will provide a quality education to thousands of children who are living in extreme poverty.

The fundraising efforts are being led by the college’s student experience manager, Lisa Humphries.

She said: “We’ve been supporting African Adventures for a number of years now and the work they do is life changing.

“We’re determined to raise the £70,000 needed to build a school at The Walk Centre in Nakuru and our ‘Walk on fire for The Walk’ is one of our biggest fundraising events.

“We’re almost halfway there – thanks to the efforts of our fantastic students and staff – but the firewalk will really boost our total.

“We’ve already had more than 30 people volunteer – including me – but we want to see 100 people on those hot coals!”

Full training will be provided to volunteers who want to take part – all you have to do is commit to raising at least £75 in sponsorship for the Big Build.

Can’t firewalk? You can still help out by coming along to the evening to support our walkers and enjoy a night of entertainment. Entry costs £5 and includes a burger, hot dog or vegetarian alternative.
