Sewing Bee star to share her tips with budding seamstresses

September 29, 2017

It will be anything but a stitch-up when girls attending Burgess Hill Girls Open Day this Saturday September 30 have the opportunity to join a sewing workshop run by Joyce Bellingham from the hit TV show Great British Sewing Bee.

Those lucky enough to attend will learn to ‘cut out’ and use a sewing machine to create their own Busy Bee folder.

Joyce lives in West Sussex with her husband Hugh. She has made clothing for everyone in her family, and has taken particular pride in having made her daughter’s wedding dress. She was one of the contestants competing for the title of Britain’s Best Home Sewer in the popular BBC2 show.

Burgess Hill Girls Head Liz Laybourn says: ‘The school has a growing reputation for encouraging creativity right across the board, in everything from textiles to graphics and photography. This is a fantastic introduction to sewing from a master of the craft. And I’m hoping Joyce will also share some back-stage moments from the TV show, too. I can’t wait!’

Diversity champion and Burgess Hill Girls ‘old girl’ Funke Abimbola MBE will also be appearing at the Open Day.
