Sewing Bee star shares her tips with budding seamstresses

Joyce Bellingham from the hit TV show Great British Sewing Bee passed on her expertise to a new generation when she visited top independent school Burgess Hill Girls.
Those lucky enough to attend Joyce’s workshop, which was part of the school’s Open Day, learned to ‘cut out’ and use a sewing machine to create their own Busy Bee folder.

Joyce lives in West Sussex with her husband Hugh.

She has made clothing for everyone in her family, and has taken particular pride in having made her daughter’s wedding dress.

She was one of the contestants competing for the title of Britain’s Best Home Sewer in the popular BBC2 show.

Burgess Hill Girls Head Liz Laybourn said: “The school has a growing reputation for encouraging creativity right across the board, in everything from textiles to graphics and photography. The number of girls who attended the workshop demonstrated that sewing has enthused a whole new generation of young women. The session was a fantastic introduction to sewing from a master of the craft and the girls had a brilliant time.”
