Student takes the plunge for hospice charity

A Littlegreen School student – who is based at Chichester College – took part in a special sponsored swim for a charity close to his heart.

Charlie Feltham, 15, challenged himself to swim a mile – 48 lengths of the swimming pool at Westgate Leisure Centre – to raise around £200 for St Barnabas Hospice in Worthing.

It’s a cause that means a lot to him, as his grandmother was cared for by the team at St Barnabas before she passed away on Christmas Day.

Charlie said: “I wanted to help the people who helped her, so I am really happy to have done it and raised so much money for them.

“It was very personal and it was good to have my family there, cheering me on. It was nice to do something that makes them proud too.

“I practiced a lot and it felt good to finish. I’m very happy.”

Amy Eade, his tutor, added: “We’re really proud of Charlie – it was a big challenge for him.

“Littlegreen is a school for boys with social, emotional and mental health needs – so this was a fantastic accomplishment for him as he not only had to complete the swim, but he also had to organise sponsorship which he did through JustGiving.

“He was self-motivated all the way through – a fantastic effort to help a very deserving cause.”
