Bede’s pupil Thomas Exall won the Swim England 16yrs National title in 50m freestyle at the English National Summer Championships held in Sheffield from the 31 July to 4 August, and created a new junior Sussex County record of 24.41.
Tom, who was on his first visit to the Nationals, was ranked fourth going into the competition with an entry time of 25.23, but swam a personal best in the heats of 24.41 to start the final seeded in number one position. He then managed to beat his personal best yet again by 0.8 seconds, wining not only the 50m freestyle National title, but also creating a new junior Sussex record with an incredible swim time of 24.41.
Bede’s Head of Swimming Craig Steenhoff said: “This was an exceptional swim and a well-deserved national title for Tom. This is now the perfect platform to move on to being one of the best junior sprinters in the country.”
