Farlington student to join county orchestraJanuary 31, 2019
The Farlington music department is delighted to announce that Year 9 music scholar, Emily Higgs, has successfully auditioned to play with the prestigious West Sussex Youth Wind Orchestra.
Having started playing the Tenor Horn in Year 7, Emily has progressed incredibly swiftly to the Euphonium and Tuba with our terrific brass teacher, Matt Ellis Devitt.
Emily will join another of our music scholars, flautist Naomi Milner-Smith, in this top county group and she also provided incidental music before the Horsham District Council Carol Service in December, together with fellow Year 9 music scholars, Florence McKenzie and Roseanna Savage, where they represented Horsham secondary schools.
The music department is also thrilled by its recent Trinity Music Examinations in which 93% of candidates gained merits or distinctions.
Jane Thomas, Director of Music, commented: “These were splendid results, especially so near the beginning of the school year. Congratulations to all concerned, particularly those in the Prep School who had never taken a music examination before, and were understandably nervous beforehand. They all did brilliantly!”
