Visitors to Bede’s Prep inspire children across the year groupsNovember 14, 2018
Bede’s Prep was delighted to welcome a range of professionals to enhance learning for pupils across the year groups last month.
As part their PSHE lessons, Year 1 and 2 pupils from Bede’s Pre-Prep have been learning about the job role of the police, and were lucky enough to receive a visit from Jo, a Police Officer based in Eastbourne.
Millie Brodie, Teacher at Bede’s Pre-Prep, says: “Jo told the children all about what a Police Officer does, how they can help in an emergency, and they even got to try on her hats! We are very grateful to Jo for her time; the children really enjoyed her visit, and the information she gave was incredibly valuable.”
Meanwhile, pupils in Years 3 to 8 enjoyed visits from two illustrators for the School’s annual Book Week. Both artists led creative workshops and hosted a book signing.
Tony De Saulles – illustrator of the popular ‘Horrible Science’ books and writer and illustrator of his own ‘Bee Boy’ series – spoke with children in Years 3 to 6. Throughout the day, children and staff were treated to lively illustration workshops that demonstrated how to create line-drawn cartoon creatures.
Sonja Leong delighted Years 7 and 8 with a lively talk on the Manga industry, before leading practical workshops that demonstrated step-by-step techniques to creating Manga characters.
Sherry Wilson, Head of English at Bede’s Prep, says, “Both workshops were a lot of fun, and left many children and staff astonished at their finished accomplished pieces! One pupil said, ‘I really enjoyed our workshop with the illustrator. Her drawings are very clever and I didn’t realise there was so much involved. I really enjoy art and I am going to practise her techniques.’”
